There is good reason behind the name Mel Born Photographer. Mel Harris began her career at the tender age of 14, shooting her first paid portrait job after winning many national awards including Age/Nikon and Ilford awards and cameras for her black and white photography and dark room prints whilst still in high school.
She moved from the country to Melbourne to pursue a career that would enhance her producing skills and TV production seemed like a great option, where she worked for all the major networks beginning her career at Channel 9, Richmond,. Moving freelance to 7 and 10 and Grundy TV. Mel worked in Production for two American movies, "Childstar", and "Blonde", made in Melbourne. She also assisted on large events such as WCW wrestling.
This only made her yearning for personal control and creativity behind the lens stronger and lead her back to school to complete her Diploma in Applied Photography.
Mel has a talent for capturing the special moments often missed on the day! She captures peoples personalities and spirit very well!.
She prefers a photojournalistic approach, from her experience although caters for both styles.
Her easy going nature allows her to sense the mood and atmosphere required for your personal, requirements, be it your wedding in a natural and un posed manner, your family or your product.
She applies her experience and skills along with professional equipment to fill your requirements on the day.
Mel has a sensitive eye for natural light and composition and utilises her creative flair to bring you treasured memories of your special day.
She has published work in calendars, coffee books, magazines, Werribee Times and Hobson Bay Times and most recently Australia's' leading newspaper "The Age". Mel is currently shooting for Hudson International marketing and most recntly shot for Ford Performance veichles. Mel also specialises in fine arts, commercial and architectural photography.
Mel chooses to shoot on high resolution RAW format digital and individually digitally processes each image in her own creative, special way in photoshop to a professional standard.
Mel has recently won a silver award at the APPAS and is an AIPP Affiliate Member.
